This is another great option from Discover® and has similar features to the first Discover offer we took a look at, but the rewards rate is a little lower. Earn 2% cash back at restaurants and gas stations on up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter, and 1% on all other purchases. Discover will also match the cash back that you’ve earned automatically at the end of your first year. There is no annual fee or late fee for your first late payment. Purchases come with a 0% intro APR for the first 6 months, and balance transfers offer 10.99% for the first 6 months. After that period of time, the APR on this card will be a variable 13.99%-22.99%. The APR that you will receive is based on your credit history and may vary with the prime rate. The Discover it® chrome for Students only requires a fair credit score to be considered.
Journey® Student Rewards from Capital One®
The Journey® Student Rewards from Capital One® is a great starter credit card for those with average, fair, or even limited credit. Earn 1% on all of your purchases, and if you pay on time – you can boost your cash back to 1.25% for that month. After making your first 5 monthly payments on time, you can gain access to a higher credit limit. There are no annual or foreign transaction fees with this offer. There is no 0% intro rate for this card. The regular APR is a little higher at a rate of 24.99%, which may vary with the prime rate.
Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card for College Students
Another great rewards card for students is the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card for College Students. If you spend $500 in purchases within 3 months of opening your account, you earn 2,500 bonus points. Earn 2x points on dining out and entertainment, with 1x points on all other purchases. The card comes with an intro rate of 0% for 7 months on purchases, afterward a variable APR of 14.99%-24.99% will apply. This rate will be based on your credit history and may vary with the prime rate. One downside for many students is that good credit is required to be considered for approval.
SelfScore® Achieve For International Students
The SelfScore® Achieve for International Students is a great option to help build your credit history in the United States. The card doesn’t offer any rewards, and has pretty basic card features. The SelfScore® Achieve comes with no annual fee, no foreign transaction fee, and no fee on the first late payment. An intro rate of 0% for 6 months on purchases will apply, and then a variable APR rate of 19.49% will apply. There is no minimum credit score required to be considered for this card. Be aware there are several items that you will need during the application process such as proof of a U.S. bank account balance, your passport ID and Student Visa, and your I-20 form – so be sure to have them on hand when you apply.
BankAmericard® Credit Card for Students
Bank of America offers a great student card to help you build credit. They provide access to credit education and you can access your FICO® score for free every month. The card comes with a great intro rate of 0% for 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers – transfers have to be completed within 60 days of opening your account. After the intro rate, you will receive an APR rate of 12.99%-22.99% variable. There is no annual fee and a $0 intro balance transfer fee for those transfers completed in the first 60 days – future balance transfers will be 3% (min. $10).
